Hello

I'm Teresa Valentine and it is my great honor, privilege and delight as the CEO of Valentine Community Services, LLC to be a part of a network of provider agencies providing daily care, support and guidance to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities within the Washington DC area. Working together with my dynamic team of dedicated clinical and residential support professionals, I hope to continue to support the people we care for to live more fulfilled, self-directed, independent and stigma free lives.

My Story

Coming from very humble beginnings, originally born in South Carolina and raised in Miami, Florida, I was no stranger to adversity, inequality, and economic disparity. Family, financial and social challenges were not lacking in my early life, but thankfully neither was a foundation of love and structure. Because of my upbringing, the highs and the lows, I have dedicated my life to serving others; doing my best to make sure people are given the opportunity to experience genuine love, support, equality, and generosity. My mission, in part, is to do what I can to help all those, who are 'no strangers to adversity' like me receive every opportunity available to overcome those obstacles of adversity on their journey to a better life.

Through my first passion of caring for youth, I garnered years of experience working closely with troubled adolescents and became a licensed therapeutic foster mother. Through love, compassion, much learning, and unyielding devotion to meeting the needs of troubled youth, I am so thankful to say I played a part in helping improve the lives of many youngsters in the DMV area as a foster mother and community advocate by working collaboratively with teachers, physicians, social workers, psychiatrists, and family members.

My passion for caring for children didn't end there, for several years I owned and operated Listen and Learn Child Development Center in Ward 8, Washington, DC, and with the help of various collaborative organizations, many of the children have grown into successful adults that have far exceeded all my hopes and expectations.

In partnership with my church, I have over twenty-five years of experience in providing services to vulnerable populations. In the past, I owned and operated two licensed facilities, one for mentally and behaviorally challenged adults, and the other an Assisted Living service for the elderly (in Clinton, MD and Washington, DC). As well, by virtue of owning and operating those facilities, I've gained invaluable skills and expertise in working with persons with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities. I've also met many dedicated and like-minded care givers and healthcare professionals along the way, some of which I'm fortunate to call my colleagues, teammates and friends today.

My dreams of helping others soar to new heights to live inspiring lives that touch the hearts and spark the imaginations of the people they meet aren't finished yet. God only knows where He'll take me, my amazing colleagues and all the people with hearts to care for others in the years to come, but I'm sure excited to see!
